Can Girls Do Everything Boys Do?
Last week on The Buzz at FPgirl Style Mag, FPgirl member who goes by the name cherrygbomb20 and is over the age of 13 wrote to us about how her friend says that “girls can’t lift heavy stuff. We might break our nails. She says we have to look perfect so boys will like us. Or we won’t be happy.”
Cherrybomb20 went on to say that her friend told her that girls can’t wear tennis shoes or baggy clothes or hang out with boys or even play football. Cherrybomb20 disagreed with her friend and wanted to hear the opinions of other FPgirl members.
We then asked, Can girls do everything boys do? We were bombarded very quickly with 200 responses and they are still coming in! Here is a sampling of what some of these very intelligent young women had to say in response!
- GIRLS ARE STRONGER THAN BOYS
- I disagree with this. I’m a country girl who loves to ride four wheelers and loves to get dirty and play sports. GO GIRLS!
- Ok I don’t care about breaking my nails plus my dream is to be a on a football team I can lift heavy stuff plus I always wear tennis shoes…
- The world wouldn’t exist without us
- There’s no such thing as “boy things!” Seriously, girls are just as good at sports as boys.
- Don’t hang out with your friend if she is so bossy. You can totally do “boy” stuff! Be yourself!
- That’s stupid. Tell her I said that. I play football, wear baggy clothes, hang with boys, wear basketball shoes to the mall, lift weights, etc. … All my friends are boys.
- I’m thinking your friend is not confident in herself and/or she thinks she might embarrass herself in front of boys. But I do definitely disagree with her. Try asking her why she thinks that and maybe she just might change her mind.
- I totally disagree with your friend! I always wear sneakers I won’t ever wear skirts or dresses unless there’s a wedding I’m gonna be a part of. I don’t wanna be mean, but what your friend should be telling you is to be yourself. You’re completely perfect when you’re yourself.
Here is to raising thoughtful young women who already know they can be and do anything they want! Kudos to you parents out there who are doing a great job!
