Here is instructions on a couple of ways to create cool dyed hair using inexpensive products:
KOOLAID Edition:
Things You’ll Need:
Petroleum jelly
Bowl
Water
Conditioner
Hair-dye application brush
Shower cap
ShampooInstructions:
1)Apply petroleum jelly to the areas of face near your hairline. This creates a barrier so the dye does not drip and dye your face.2)Mix three packages of unsweetened Kool-Aid or a box of Jell-O into a bowl with a couple drops of water. Sweetened Kool-Aid or Jell-O results in sticky hair. Add a couple drops of conditioner to the mixture, and stir it together. The mixture should be more of a paste than a liquid. Use a Kool-Aid or Jell-O flavor that matches the desired color of hair. For example, “Lime” flavored Kool-Aid or Jell-O tends to be green, dyeing the hair green, “Cherry” flavored Kool-Aid or Jell-O tends to be red, dyeing the hair red, and “Grape” flavored Kool-Aid or Jell-O tends to be purple, dyeing the hair purple.
3)Use a hair dyeing application brush to work the dye onto the hair. Put a shower cap over your head and leave the mixture on the hair overnight. Remove the shower cap, shampoo and condition your hair and let it dry.
The picture above is Lauren Conrad and her sporting a dip-dye Kool-Aid pony! Try dip dying your pony in rainbow or your favorite color!
So cool! Thanks Emily!

I would totally do a dip dye pony or the ends of my hair, just like my picture, and I would do purple, lime, pink, or yellow!
first how do you get the smiley! back to the topic
don’t do green it looks like you’ve been in the pool to long!!!!
You get the simley by simply typing it just like you would in a text. First : and then ) makingthis
Good luck!
Lizzie, you first do this : then add this ) next to it with no space then it automatically turns into a smiley!
I already have a bleached blond streak that I color, so too late.
Does it wash out?
It washes right out after a couple washes
I would totally do rainbow or red maybe purple or any color
i would totally do blue!!!!!
how many washes till it comes out?
Also, to rainbow your hair- do the same “prep” steps for making the dye. but make however many colors you want to include in your “rainbow” and then take one inch strands of hair, dipping each strand into a different color! Enjoy!
Washes out in a few washes. Enjoy
Omg i want to do this so bad! I am going to try it! As soon as i get kool aid.
Thanks!
so cool! i can’t wait to try it.
I MUST try that! Thanks Emily!
does it wash out in water?
Rachel, with a couple washes of regular shampoo and conditioner it will wash right away. It doesnt need special shampoos or anything, its really inexpenmsive actually!
