Oh, look: there’s the sock that’s been missing for months. Hey, I forgot all about that super cute blouse I bought when school started. OMG!!! I can’t believe I used to like this outfit!!

Does any of this sound familiar, FPgirls? Don’t worry—we get it, which is why we have this new series called Love UR Closet, just in time for spring.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll give you lots of easy-to-follow tips to help you take your closet from OMG to AHHH! (Bonus: your parents will be thrilled, too!) So what’s up first?? Sorting!!

Step One: Pull everything out of your closet. Go ahead and make a mess. Yayy!!

Step Two: It’s time to sort. Make three piles: Keep. Donate. Store. The “Keep” pile should be all the stuff you wear. No cheating here! It’s better to have a smaller closet of stuff you love rather than a closet crammed full of clothes you never wear.

The “Donate” pile is the stuff you no longer wear. Maybe you’ve outgrown it, or maybe it isn’t your style anymore. The good news? Someone, somewhere will be able to wear these clothes. So give, give, give!! Your local Salvation Army, Big Brother/Big Sister organization, and churches and synagogues are good places to start. Also! Some shopping centers have drop-off bins in their parking lots, so you can bring a bag of clothes with you the next time you go shopping.

The “Store” pile is the seasonal stuff that you won’t be wearing for the next three to six months. So, those winter boots and mittens? Put those puppies away until the cold weather and snow flies again!

Once you’ve sorted, it’s time to put all the “keeper” clothes back in your closet (yep, you got to clean up). Now, all your pretty skirts, capris, shorts, Tees, and cute shoes are front and center, just in time for spring!

OK, FPgirl…what’s the weirdest thing you’ve found in your closet when you’ve gone on a cleaning frenzy? Share in the comments!!
