Club Z by FPgirl, Defined
The 411 on Club Z
Chances are if you’re reading this post, it’s because you want to know more about Club Z by FPgirl. We don’t blame you! We’re parents, too, s
o we know how important it is to understand what we’re signing up our kids for. When they beg, “Mom/Dad, pleaassse sign me up,” it’s tempting (at times) to simply give in. But we all know their safety comes first, which is probably the main reason you landed here. You want to know the REAL scoop on Club Z. So let’s get to it.
We’re setting up this article based on actual questions we’ve been getting from engaged parents like yourself.
What is Club Z?
Club Z is a FREE loyalty program for girls. In exchange for their opinions, feedback and participation in fun quizzes and challenges, they earn rewards and enter contests for cool prizes. Club Z is the brainchild of FPgirl by FashionPlaytes, the dynamic and trusted social destination that gives Generation Z girls a voice (just as we have the Y Generation and Millennials, now we have Generation Z). And yes, that’s where the “Z” in Club Z comes from!
Can my daughter be part of Club Z if she isn’t a member of FPgirl?
In order to be in Club Z, your daughter will have to be a registered user on FPgirl.com. Don’t worry! That’s free, too! (Want to register her as an FPgirl right now? It’s easy and free - top, right corner of the FPgirl homepage!)
How is Club Z different from the rest of FPgirl, like the Style Mag?
Club Z is part of the FPgirl family, but it is a members-only club and parents need to provide permission for their girl to join. On other parts of the FPgirl site, like the Style Mag, everyone can hang out, read the posts and leave comments. In Club Z, girls get to do lots more, like take fun quizzes and polls to help design new products. Plus, they’ll earn rewards! They’ll also be the first to see new clothes, designs and styles on FPgirl, and they’ll get to give us their opinions about all kinds of other products—not just ours, but from our partners, too.
Why should I sign up my girl for Club Z? What’s the true value beyond getting free stuff?
The short-term value—for your girl, anyway—will likely be the free stuff and the fun challenges we’ll send her by email. She’ll also be part of a like-minded community of empowered and opinionated tween girls like herself!
But the potential long-term value is this: she’s going to see how her opinion—her voice—matters. She’s going to boost her critical thinking and analytical skills by discovering how to provide meaningful feedback on what she likes and doesn’t like about a certain product. She’s going to read—and learn to weigh and evaluate—other girls’ opinions. And she’ll be able to do all of this safely while under the guidance of trained moderators who require respectful responses and who do not, under any circumstances, tolerate bullying or mean behaviors.
It might sound like we’re building up this club to be more than it is. (Don’t worry – we always have our mom and dad “caps” on, too!) We’re not saying your girl will experience ALL of these positives at once, and certainly not overnight. But if she participates regularly in the Club Z community, these are some of the real benefits she could experience over time.
Why does the sign-up process feel so complicated? Actually, why do I even need to “sign” her up in the first place? Can’t she join on her own?
We work hard to make sure we’re in compliance at all times with The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Because we’ll be sending weekly updates to your daughter via email about challenges and activities that she can participate in, COPPA requires that we get verifiable parental consent (we cannot email her otherwise).
There are several options available to verify your parental consent: you can provide the last 4 digits of your social security number, your driver’s license number, a physical form with your signature, verbal consent over the phone to a trained professional, or a credit card that works (meaning we charge $1 to make sure the credit card is legit and then issue a refund right away).
Now, we get it: this verification process might feel a little intrusive and involved, but these methods go a long way in making sure an actual parent/adult has provided girls with permission to join. It’s all about keeping kids safe online and making sure their parents/guardians know what they’re involved in.
Why is FPgirl offering Club Z?
Our girls have been getting more and more involved with creating content on our site and being involved in FPgirl product design and development. We wanted to be able to continue giving girls these kinds of opportunities and MORE—not only with FPgirl, but with other brands they’re excited about. We love hearing what they have to say and seeing how empowered they become when they get the chance to express their opinions. As a result, Club Z was born.
What do girls do in Club Z?
Club Z members complete challenges, quizzes and polls to earn rewards. They share opinions by providing comments and feedback, and they get to be part of a vibrant, thriving community of like-minded tween girls. They can even test out and comment on new products from our partners to influence product development and design. They’ll also be entered to win prizes like iPads, event tickets, shopping sprees and more. As Club Z evolves, we’ll be adding more awesome features and benefits.
Can Club Z members chat with one another? Is it like Facebook?
No. “Chat” implies real-time exchanges, and the girls aren’t able to do that in Club Z or FPgirl. In the same way that girls can interact safely in the Style Mag on FPgirl, Club Z members will be able to comment and submit content they’ve written. They can reply to other comment threads, but all of this is fully moderated by the FPgirl team so that the girls are not revealing/exchanging any personally identifiable information and are abiding by our community guidelines in terms of being supportive and safe.
How are you using the information that you gather on my girl?
We only use email addresses to send notifications about new challenges and quizzes, as well as to notify winners. We do NOT advertise to Club Z members. We do NOT share the personal information of any individual member. We only use aggregated information to provide guidance to our partners.
How do I know Club Z is really safe?
Club Z is 100% compliant with the US Federal Children’s Online Protection Privacy Act (COPPA). We are certified by Privo, which means we meet the requirements to participate in the PRIVO Privacy Assurance Program, approved by the Federal Trade Commission as an authorized safe harbor under COPPA. Bottom line: our goal is to make Club Z a fun place for your girl to have her voice heard. If you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
