Motivation Monday: Running a 5K

Motivation Monday: Running a 5K

If you’re new to the running game, a 5K is a great goal to have in mind. 5 Kilometers is about 3.1 miles. Totally realistic, right? Yes! If you’re looking to start running more and need some motivation, we’re here to help you get started.

Getting Started

Depending on how fast you want to get ready to run a 5K, you’ll increase your runs by different distances. In this particular training program, your run will increase by a quarter mile each week.

You’ll alternate between 2 rest days,  4 days of running, and 1 days of cross-training. You’ll also have the option to rest on the cross-training days or to do cross-training on one of the running days! The idea is to be as flexible as possible, so make this plan accommodate your busy schedule!

For the Cross-training activities (CT), you can bike, swim, go on the elliptical, etc. These activities are important because they’ll bring some variety to your training! Like going swimming with your friend? You can do that! Or, maybe SoulCycle is your thing. That counts too! Just make sure you get in some cardio!

Swimming laps is also a great way to get in a good workout! It will help build endurance in a fun way!

Always be sure to stretch before and after you run to keep your muscles warm. It’s really important that you rest during your rest days, because it will help prevent injuries. We all need a break sometimes!

We hope that this Monday’s motivation might’ve motivated you to start training for a 5K. Or, if you’ve already done that, to try and train for something bigger! Everyone starts somewhere.

Feeling inspired? You got this, girl! Get running!
